The Madison County Soil & Water Conservation District's mission is to conserve and enhance the wise use of our soil, water and related natural resources.
Each year at the Madison County SWCD, we are tasked with educating the public on topics surrounding our Mission Statement. We are heavily involved with the Madison County 4H Fair. There, you will find us with a stream flow table, designed to teach children (and adults), the affects of erosion. We continue to attend the various festivals and parades throughout Madison County to educate our citizens on the importance of conservation practices.
The last couple of years, we have been lucky enough to partner with Hamilton, Tipton, Howard and Boone Counties to host a Soil Quality Workshop. At this event, we had speakers cover various topics concerning soil structure, cover crops, conservation tillage, as well as a host of other conservation practices.
We are also involved in Madison County's MS4 Partnership, which includes cities and towns partnering to accomplish goals aimed at reducing the effects of stormwater issues. Our office is responsible for inspecting the construction sites for erosion control measures to reduce the sediment and contaminants. The past two years, we were given a day to educate Anderson Middle School students to teach them about watersheds and their personal affect on the watershed. It has been very rewarding working with the young students.
