2013 Ag Day at Dishman Farms

The use of cover crops is steadily increasing throughout Indiana. Many farmers and manure applicators consider cover crops to be an essential tool in conservation agriculture. The Henry County SWCD offered a great opportunity to learn more about conservation practices and bettering your soil health. Hosts Trent & Brandon Dishman gave an overview of their farming practices and the Indiana Conservation Partnership has assisted them in bettering their farming operation. Scott Gabbard, Shelby County ANR Extension Educator, spoke on Fertilizer Applications Regulations. We also heard from Ernest Weaver, Byron Seed Sales Representative, on cover crop species and determining what seeds work well in our zone. Cover Crop Management and their importance was discussed by Robert Zupancic, NRCS Grazing Specialist. We had a fantastic meal provided by area sponsors. PARP credits were available and a tour of the Dishman’s new, modern hog facility after the workshop. We had over 100 attendees at this great event.
