Grant County Soil and Water Conservation District partnered with Huntington, Wells, Blackford and Wabash counties on a study of the Lower Salamonie Watershed via a 319 Grant, and Huntington is the lead county. The project was to aid in improving the overall water quality and environmental practice. The project is placing an emphasis on E. Coli, nutrients, and sediment loading in the watershed. The district committed cash match and in-kind match for the project.
The District partnered with our local Quails Forever chapter on a Wildlife Field Day, which was held at Drook Brothers Farm.
The District had a contribution agreement with NRCS and the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts to review the CRP properties in Grant County. There were 40 filter strips and 17 grass waterways and 4 contour buffers that had been re-enrolled.
