Erosion control stabilization project

On Saturday, April 26th staff from the Floyd County Soil & Water Conservation District participated in the 3rd annual clean up effort around the community of Edwardsville.

One area of particular concern to the district was the eroding hillside near the interstate exit at Edwardsville/Georgetown.  In preparation for this clean up, the district supervisors agreed to sponsor erosion control measures to be implemented in conjunction with the event.  The district sponsored the cost of purchasing erosion control blankets.

With the help of the county highway department personnel and a few other volunteers, SWCD staff worked to spread native grass seeds and a wildlife mix on the bare topsoil then installed the erosion control blankets.  The completed stabilization of the hillside area was an excellent example of the district’s mission in action.
