Conservation Success at the Local Level
In 2011 the Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted its second Whitewater River Canoe Clean-up in conjunction with the Purdue Extension Service and the River Rats Canoe and Kayak owners. Seventeen participants collected 1,100 lbs. of metal and 700 lbs. of trash.
Other accomplishments for the year included the District sponsoring their first cover crop cost-share to producers for first-time planting or a mix. Funding was made available through the Clean Water Indiana (CWI) grant. Six producers were eligible for funding.  The District also launched the “Storm Drain Stenciling” project in Fayette County with the Union and Wayne County SWCDs. The funding for this project was also made available through CWI.
