On September 11, 2010, the Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) conducted their first Conservation Field Day luncheon and tour at the Manlove Park in Milton.
Among the speakers was State Farm Service Agency Executive Director Julia Wickard. Presenters for the event were Hans Kok, Indiana Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative; Colt VanNatta, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service District Conservationist; Nate Yazel, IDNR Division of Fish & Wildlife; Jayson Waterman, IDNR Division of Forestry.
The bus tour sites visited included a waterway construction, wildlife refuge grass belt, a wetland/waterfowl habitat and a windbreak.
The Fayette County SWCD was one of the first districts in the state to advertise the event with billboard signs.
The District viewed the event as a huge success and a great opportunity to talk about conservation Best Management Practices to local land users in the community.
