The 6th Southern Indiana Grazing Conference was held on March 4 at the WestGate Academy in Odon Indiana. We had around 140 in attendance, which we felt to be an excellent turnout due to the winter storm warning that had been posted for mid-day.
Daviess, Martin & Pike County have been awarded a two year $75,000 grant Clean Water Indiana Grant to cost-share on cover crops and soil testing.
Daviess County SWCD just received word their LARE application has been approved for funding in the amount of $30,000 for a variety of conservation projects.
Daviess SWCD Partners with the Daviess County Economic Development to apply for the ISDA Livestock Promotional Grant. We were awarded $1,063.03 for the Southern IN Grazing Conference on March 4th. A second ISDA Livestock Promotional Grant was applied for and has been awarded in the amount of $4,000 toward the 2016 SIGC.
Each year the Daviess SWCD puts on a 4th Grader Farm Fair for the entire county. Each year having around 400 +/- students and teachers in attendance.
The Daviess SWCD partners with the City of Washington to assist with the educational portion of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). The City pays the district $3,000 each year to provide up to 60 hours of education. The current City of Washington Stormwater/Wastewater employee attends our board meetings regularly and works intently with the district to promote clean water and promote conservation.
