In 2014 the Daviess County SWCD partnered with The Daviess County Economic Development Foundation, Inc. to apply for a Livestock Promotional Grant. The grant was provided by the Indiana State Department of Agriculture which supports educational livestock events helping to offset the expense of promoting an event. The grant application met with approval and was used to help with the promotion of the Southern Indiana Grazing Conference.
The Daviess County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted the 5th Annual SIGC (Southern Indiana Grazing Conference) on February 5th at the Simon J Graber facility in Odon IN. The SIGC is a joint partnership effort between the SWCD's, NRCS, ISDA, Indiana Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative and the Indiana Forage Council to provide an excellent day of livestock education. We have producers attending the conference from throughout the state as well as KY, OH and IL. This year we had 225 pre-register and due to extreme bad weather to move in the night before we had 149 in attendance for the day. We feel this speaks highly to the quality of the conference to have so many in attendance when the weather was so extreme.
The Daviess SWCD continues to provide assistance to the City of Washington through a contract. This annual agreement helps the city meet its requirement for public education and outreach on MS4 and store water issues, as mandated by the U.S. EPA.
