2015 Activities, Accomplishments, and Future Plans

Applied for and received certification for the Reading Rain Garden located on the 4H Fairgrounds as a Monarch Waystation.

Applied for and received a 2015 Indiana Forestry Educational Foundation Grant for a Woodland Owner Educational Workshop to be held in September 2016.  The workshop will be held at the Clark State Forest, Henryville, IN.  Topics pertinent to the successful management and conservation of woodlands will be presented by our District Forester, NRCS District Conservationist, and consultant foresters.

Continued work to complete our Fourteen Mile Creek/Goose Creek-OH River Watersheds Management Plan, which is due January 2016.  Steering Committee members have set goals, considered action strategies to address those goals, and proposed a timeline to improve water quality within the watersheds.  An implementation grant will be applied for once approval of the management plan is received.

Continued to promote the reduction of sediment and nutrients from nonpoint sources through our 2015 Clean Water Indiana grant partnership.  The partnership successfully allocated all cost-share funds to landowners by the end of 2015.  Work to put practices on the ground and distribute funds will begin in 2016.
