The Boone County Soil and Water Conservation District has again been awarded a LARE Watershed Implementation Grant thru the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
For the 4th year, the district has been awarded the LARE grant for the Sugar Creek Watershed Project. From the beginning, our project goal is to improve the overall health of the watershed using best management practices. Together with our partners, we began in the headwaters and are working downstream. Our goal within the next 2 years together with our neighboring counties is to apply for a 319 grant. To date, there has been a biological study done through LARE, numerous LARE watershed grants for the counties involved, a 205J grant through IDEM and Clean Water Indiana grants for this project.
We look forward to the future improvements within this watershed as Sugar Creek is renowned for its recreational activities and aquatic life.
