Public Safety Communications technology is developing at a rapid pace, and Indiana is making plans, both short term and long term, to integrate next generation communications technology into existing and future communications systems.
Short term, the state will upgrade the existing statewide 800 MHz voice communications system to P25 standards. This move will offer many benefits, not the least of which is the ability to purchase radios from multiple manufacturers, thereby ensuring cost competitiveness and more choice in products.
Long term, the state is planning for the National Public Safety Broadband Network (FirstNet), the country's first nationwide broadband network dedicated to public safety.
P25 Vendor Information
Both Motorola and EF Johnson are offering special promotions during the period of the upgrade. Links to vendor-provided summaries of these promotions follow below, but please contact your specific vendor for details.
*Other vendor radios can be used on the system, but they must meet the requirements of the Compliance Assessment Program and must be secured with a hardware system key. Info about the CAP is available at http://www.pscr.gov/outreach/p25_cap/. Consult with IPSC prior to purchase
