Cybersecurity conversations with locals across the state

Meeting

The big picture: IOT's Indiana Information Sharing and Analysis Center (IN-ISAC) and IN.gov teams, with state legislators, are hosting local, in-person meetings across the State of Indiana about the importance of cybersecurity and digital government services.

The group recently traveled to the west-central part of the state, where locals from Clay, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Vigo Counties attended the conversation at a local school. Driving the numbers – This was the 5th regional meeting with local officials.

The discussion included a history behind new legislation to report cyber incidents, HEA 1169 and how IOT uses the data, details on the IN.gov program and how locals can use a .gov domain free of charge with the state, and the history of IN-ISAC and how all can help the west-central community.

What's next: The teams continue to travel the state to teach IOT-provided services for local government and learn how the state can better assist.

Track your ticket in the ASM Self-Service Portal

The Big Picture: IOT uses automated workflows to respond to customers quickly. If you work at one of the 35 agencies using ASM, IOT can create workflows for you.
Since 2011, vFire (now Alemba Service Manager (ASM)) has been IOT's ticketing system. If you have an issue and report it to the IOT Help Desk either through the Self-Service Portal, the Help Desk Assistant, or a phone call, a ticket is created to track your issue until it is solved.

IOT has expanded the use of the ASM to take advantage of the Workflow engine, allowing you to map either simple or complex business processes.
An excellent example of workflows developed within the Alemba Service Manager include:

Lost / Stolen Computer – The workflow notifies the correct people upon ticket submission. It begins the process to identify the current status of the missing hardware and determine if IOT can deploy a replacement. This involves multiple teams and notifies them when something is expected of them within the process.
The Workflow engine's advantage is that everyone involved in the process can see the request's status and who is currently working on it while ensuring only the people who should have access do. There is no lost/forgotten time as emails are misplaced or tickets get buried with other support requests. The workflow can capture the work tasks required, the approvals needed and simplify the entire process.

By the numbers: The IOT portal now contains 300+ FAQs (updated daily from multiple sources) and 165+ Service Requests/Offerings (and growing). ASM itself is a product that 16 other state agencies use to help manage their operations.

CANstruction: IOT helps Gleaner's Food Bank of Indiana

The Indiana Office of Technology took part in the CANstruction event the State Personnel Department (SPD) put on this January.
Our team wanted to do something that included our specialty: technology. With the help of many team members, IOT created an "end hunger" laptop screen, written in HTML.
SPD is reviewing submissions this week and will announce the best structure, and most cans collected awards on Feb. 3.

Behind the Tech: Cassidy Molnar

In 2005 the Indiana Office of Technology was created to provide cost-effective, secure, consistent, reliable enterprise-technology services to state government. IOT offers more than 120 technology products supported and serviced by expert staff with licenses or certifications in 62 technical areas. Behind the Tech is a spotlight on the staff that provides services for 30,000 state employees.

Molnar

Cassidy Molnar is a member of the IOT Security Risk & Compliance team.
In her role, she regularly verifies NDAs and reviews exception requests. Other daily assignments vary depending on her team’s needs - on any given day, she could be helping with audits or working in Archer.

What's her favorite thing about her job?
“I like the variance in my role,” she said. “I enjoy seeing the bigger picture and how all the tasks contribute to one mutual goal. If I’m ever struggling with something, I generally reach out to another team member. Everyone is always super nice and helpful!”

What’s something no one knows about her?
One day she would love to foster neonatal kittens. She spent 3-4 years volunteering at her local animal shelter and has previously rescued/rehomed two cats. For now, she currently has three cats of her own. “They are silly and sometimes mischievous, which makes every day a little more interesting,” she said.

What does she hope to take away from her work at IOT?
“As much knowledge and acquired skills as possible,” she said.
