The Office of Technology continues to focus on providing services and value to all of our customers. The latest six month customer satisfaction results – 98.28% – tell a story of a successful year for our customers. To cap it off, Indiana was recognized by the Center for Digital Government as having the best overall digital government experience, which services fellow state employees, but also all Hoosiers.
IOT is a service agency and is a gigantic provider. If states were included in the Fortune 100, Indiana’s annual budget, ~$35B, would be just below Nike’s annual revenue. This scale is reflected back at when we review some annual numbers from IOT services.

The Art of the Possible Speaker Series
The next Art of the Possible Speaker Series, presented by the Indiana Office of Technology, is coming on Thursday, Jan. 16 from 1-2:30 p.m. Hear from Mark Schwartz, an enterprise Strategist at Amazon Web Services.
The Art of the Possible Speaker Series aims to bring in bright minds across a diverse set of fields and have a dialog about digital transformation.
The inaugural event was held in November, with John McDonald, CEO of ClearObject, a leading Internet of Things Systems Integrator as the speaker. McDonald discussed the Internet of Every Thing, or how every day devices are getting smarter and what that means for companies and consumers.

As we get closer to each event, more information will be sent out about the specific topics covered.
IOT conducted a tabletop exercise to examine the IOT Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP), and to identify gaps and opportunities for improvements.The exercise simulated a scenario of a tornado hitting downtown Indianapolis, damaging some connectivity at Indiana Government Center North. This then triggered a decision matrix for IOT management on who and how would IOT staff be notified and maintain operations.
The exercise, Module 1: Phase II – Activation & Relocation, is the first part of a three-part module exercise to provided education and training that will prepare IOT for a COOP (disaster) event.
Modules 2 and 3 will be conducted in the Spring and Summer of 2020. The goal of these modules will be to build upon previous tabletop exercises, and then to be able to conduct a full-scale exercise late in 2020.
What was discussed: The order of succession at IOT in case
of an emergency:
- Who is in charge?
- If that individual isn’t available, who’s in charge?
- How do we communicate the problem?
- How do we communicate with each other?
Mark Dutton, a member of the Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Services team, has been running a bi-weekly IOT COOP meeting, with a goal to bring the IOT operational teams together to update the COOP. Dutton also maintains contact with the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, who keeps the overall plan for the entire state.

Create a State Employees' Holidays calendar
You have your work calendar filled with all of your appointments and meetings. But do you have the state holidays scheduled to know when you’re out of office?
Import the 2020 state employee holiday calendar today to add it to your current work and personal calendars.
Here are the steps to import it into your calendar:
- Go to YOUR default calendar
- Click on file
- Select Open & Export
- Select import/ export file
- Under import/ export, select import an icalendar file
- Select the file to be imported from the saved location
Now your calendar will update and you will know when you are supposed to be out of the office.
