Project 421 logo

Project 421 is INDOT’s study of the half-mile section of U.S. 421 through Madison, Ind., that approaches the Milton-Madison Bridge, which spans the Ohio River between Madison and Milton, Ky. The goal of Project 421 is to select a route that best addresses the safety concerns, mobility challenges, and economic development needs of Madison.

FONSI Issued

The environmental assessment required by the National Environmental Policy Act has officially completed for the U.S. 421 New Road Construction Project and The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). As a result, INDOT will continue development activities - real estate acquisition - to advance this project towards construction of the preferred alternative number six, an at grade alignment. Construction is anticipated to take place 2019-2020.

Public Hearing: February 20, 2018

INDOT hosted a public hearing regarding the Environmental Assessment (EA) for U.S. Route 421 proposed new road construction (Project 421) in Madison. The public hearing was held on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Future public hearings will be announced as they are scheduled.
