U.S 35 at Johnson/Severs Road
This is a proposed intersection improvement project for U.S. 35 and Johnson/Severs Road in La Porte County. The preferred alternative involves modification of the existing signalized intersection into a hybrid multilane roundabout. The roundabout will primarily consist of one 16-foot circulatory travel lane and a grassy center median, 84 feet in diameter, bordered by a 10-foot concrete truck apron and concrete curb and gutter. The roundabout will have a double-lane entry fro
m northbound U.S. 35 and a dedicated right turn lane for eastbound traffic on Johnson Road turning right onto southbound U.S. 35.
The need for the project is due to the high frequency and severity of crashes at the intersection. The intersection has an above average number of crashes with above average crash severity compared to other intersections with similar traffic volumes. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in spring 2029.
A public hearing is being planned to offer all interested persons an opportunity to comment on current preliminary design plans.

- Verbal statements for the record will be taken as part of the public hearing procedure. Written comments will be accepted before the hearing, during the hearing, and for two weeks following the hearing. All verbal and written comments submitted will be evaluated, considered, and addressed in subsequent environmental documentation.
