S.R. 49 at Calumet Avenue / C.R. 950
This is a proposed intersection improvement project for State Road 49 at Calumet Ave/C.R. 950 in Porter County. The need is based on the high crash rate, specifically the occurrence of right-angle crashes which often result in injury, and the poor traffic conditions that the intersection is currently or forecasted to experience without changes. The purpose is to improve intersection safety and provide a long-term solution to ensure safe and efficient operation of the intersection.
As proposed, the project involves the construction of a Modified Reduced Conflict Intersection (RCI) with a Median U-Turn (MUT). Construction is currently scheduled for 2027. A public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2 to offer all interested persons an opportunity to comment on current preliminary design plans.
