The project aims to improve safety at S.R. 38 and Prairie Baptist Road by addressing the high number and severity of crashes, particularly right-angle crashes. Between 2019 and 2021, 20 crashes were reported at the intersection, approximately 80% of which were right-angle crashes. More than one-third of the crashes resulted in serious injury or fatality. Crash analysis also found that crashes at the intersection occur more often and are more severe than at similar intersections across Indiana. The project includes a proposed single-lane roundabout that would replace the existing intersection. The roundabout is designed to slow vehicle speeds, improve traffic flow and reduce the potential for serious crashes. The proposed design also accommodates larger vehicles, including semi-trucks and emergency vehicles.
