Renew Now - Follow these step-by-step instructions
With benefits that can cover up to 100% of tuition, you can't afford to leave the money you've earned on the table. Use the checklist below to ensure you take the steps needed to renew your Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) benefits, and if attending a state-eligible school, the National Guard Supplemental Grant (NGSG).
- Step 1: Confirm GPA Requirements
Confirm that your GPA from your most recent FTA-funded term meets the minimums.
If your GPA does not meet the below minimums, you may be on academic probation. Contact an Army Education Counselor through the ArmyIgnitED portal to discuss your status.- Undergraduate, 2.0 or "C"
- Graduate, 3.0 or "B"
- Step 2: Meet with Academic Advisor
Meet with your school's academic advisor to select courses for the upcoming term.
- Step 3: Verify Degree Plan
Verify that the degree plan currently uploaded in your ArmyIgnitED account is still accurate. If not, upload a new, signed copy and update your Educational Goal.
- Step 4: Register for Classes
Be sure you are officially registered for classes at your school in the upcoming term.
- Step 5: Submit Tuition Assistance Request (TAR)
Submit Tuition Assistance Request (TAR) in ArmyIgnitED.
- Submit a separate TAR for each class
- Important: Submit your TAR requests between 7 and 60 days before the course start date.
- Step 6: Ensure Supervisor Approval for FTA
Ensure that:
- Supervisor information is correct
- Your supervisor has CAC access
- Your supervisor is aware of your pending tuition assistance request
- Step 7: Send TAR to School
Once the TAR is approved, send the signed TAR to your school's financial/bursar/student accounts office.
- Step 8: If Attending an NGSG Eligible School
Guardsmen going to an Indiana-based university may be eligible for the National Guard Supplemental Grant (NGSG). Learn more by following the links below:
