SRR Grant CONNECT Initiative

Indiana Statewide Recidivism Reduction
CONNECT Initiative

On October 1, 2016, the Indiana Department of Correction received notification of being awarded the first-year of funding for a three-year renewable grant as a recipient of the Second Chance Act (SCA) Statewide Adult Recidivism Reduction Strategic Planning Program from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, and Bureau of Justice Assistance

IDOC is meeting the challenge outlined in the grant by strengthening infrastructure and capacity building for Re-Entry, providing case management education and reentry planning, implementing evidence-based programming and services to address criminogenic needs, along with the implementation of effective community supervision practices and providing housing assistance to reduce recidivism. IDOC kicked off this multi-faceted approach to Re-Entry in June at the 2017 Case Management Conference. IDOC partner, The Carey Group kicked off the initiative presenting at both the Case Management Conference and the 2017 Re-Entry Retreat providing education about the importance of Evidence-Based Practices (EBP) to IDOC Case Management staff, facility administrators and IDOC executive staff.
