Managing Waste

Waste is more commonly referred to as “trash” or “garbage” and can be anything from used napkins to an old car. Everything we discard is considered to be waste. People, businesses, and industries generate waste on a daily basis and we are all responsible for properly managing what we throw away. There are disposal laws and rules in place to protect us since the improper management of waste can negatively affect our health and the environment.

The Office of Land Quality (OLQ) works to make sure that our waste is transported, treated, stored, processed, and disposed appropriately by regulating specific waste industries and activities. OLQ can monitor these wastes through the use of permits and registrations. In doing so, OLQ updates public records in order to inform the public on matters involving their environment.
