Office of Tourism Development releases new Travel Indiana tablet app

INDIANAPOLIS (July 23, 2013) - The Indiana Office of Tourism Development (IOTD) announced today the release of the all new Travel Indiana tablet app. Available by free download for both Apple iPads and Android tablets, the Travel Indiana App is a dynamic and interactive digitization of the Indiana Travel Guide. The app offers travelers throughout Indiana valuable information on destinations and attractions and links to many cost-saving offers throughout the state.

“Mobility and tourism go hand in hand and keeping up with the latest technologies is vital to our industry’s success.” said Mark Newman, executive director of IOTD. “The release of this app allows us to seamlessly travel with visitors and provide them valuable content on the latest mobile tablet devices.”

The new Travel Indiana App is an added mobile resource for Indiana travelers. is currently undergoing an extensive mobile redesign that is being built specifically for smart phone use. IOTD is continuing to advance its technology footprint with still more initiatives underway that will increase the department’s presence in the mobile marketplace and maximize the use of technology for Indiana travelers. With the mobile site, traditional travel guide and new tablet app, IOTD is an at-ready resource for all Indiana travelers.

Once fully downloaded, the app is a completely interactive experience. Users can watch embedded videos, read feature articles about premiere Indiana destinations and tap advertisements within the guide to visit related websites. All this is done within the Travel Indiana App, eliminating the need for users to constantly alternate between apps depending on content.

The launch of the Travel Indiana App is another major IOTD initiative, following last month’s announcement of the innovative curriculum resource for fourth-grade teachers titled "Visit Indiana: 4th Grade Social Studies." The Travel Indiana App was developed in conjunction with Chris Flook’s award-winning telecommunications program at Ball State University.

“Ball State is a great partner and we were happy to develop this project with them,” Newman added. “Indiana is becoming a technological hub and whenever possible, IOTD will utilize the energy and creativity of Indiana companies and universities when launching new technology initiatives.”

The app can be found by entering “Travel Indiana” in the search bar of the Apple App Store and Android Market/Google Play.
