INDIANAPOLIS - In celebration of the Third Annual Civil Rights Game on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Victory Field, The Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC) and the Indianapolis Indians announced today a Student Essay Contest for Indiana elementary school students. The contest asks students to submit an essay on: "Why do you feel that education is the civil rights issue of our time?"

Contest entries should be limited to no more than 500 words and submitted by Friday, June 20, 2014.

Essay Contest Winners Receive:

First Place: The first place winner will have their essay published in the Indianapolis Recorder and receive an Indianapolis Clowns throwback jersey as worn by the Indians during the Third Annual Civil Rights Game on August 22, 2014. They will also receive 8 tickets to the game on Thursday, August 22, 2014 and have the opportunity to throw out the first pitch with Indiana Civil Rights Commission's Executive Director Jamal L. Smith.

Second Place: The second place winner will receive an Indianapolis Indians T-shirt and four tickets to the Third Annual Civil Rights Game on Thursday, August 22, 2014 at Victory Field.

Third Place: The third place winner will receive a signed Rowdie baseball or an Indianapolis Indians souvenir bat and four tickets to the Third Annual Civil Rights Game on Thursday, August 22, 2014 at Victory Field.
