Indianapolis, IN The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is a day that the IUPUI community dedicates in service to the memory of the slain civil rights leader. The official event has been occurring nationally since 1994. IUPUI has been participating in this day of service since 1999. If you enjoy interacting with others and would like to serve IUPUI as well as the community, register yourself and your group members for the MLK Day of Service. In the words of Martin Luther King, "If I can help somebody as I pass along, if I can cheer somebody with a word or song, if I can show somebody he is traveling wrong, then my living will not be in vain." A model reading program for eighth graders has been created in the social studies classes. One hundred hardback books titled "A Kid's Guide to America's Bill of Rights" were donated to the Vigo County School Corporation for the project. These books were chosen to encourage children to learn to question and understand the polices and practices of government officials as they attempt to govern the country.
