INDIANA INDUCED TERMINATION OF PREGNANCY REPORT
2011
Highlights
- There were 9,112 terminated pregnancies reported in Indiana
in 2011. For additional details, see Table
1a.
- Of the 9,112 women who had a pregnancy terminated (Indiana
occurrences):
- 8,640 (94.8%) were Indiana residents (Table
1b).
- 5,612 (61.6%) of the women were white; 2,734 (30.0%)
were black; 346 (3.8%) were of other races; and 420 (4.6%)
were of unknown race (Table 1a).
- 7,798 (85.6%) of the women were non-Hispanic
in origin, and 715 (7.8%) were of Hispanic origin.
Ethnicity was unknown for 599 (6.6%) of the women (Table
1a).
- 7,748 (85.0%) of the women who had a pregnancy
terminated were not married; 1,279 (14.0%) were married.
Marital status was unknown for 85 (0.9%) of the women (Table
1a).
- At the time of termination (Indiana occurrences -
Table 1a):
- Less than 1% (46) of the women were under the age
of 15;
- 3.8% (343) were 15-17 years of age;
- 9.4% (852) were 18-19 years of age;
- 33.6% (3,063) were 20-24 years of age;
- 24.0% (2,191) were 25-29 years of age;
- 16.0% (1,459) were 30-34 years of age;
- 8.9% (815) were 35-39 years of age;
- 3.4% (309) were 40 years of age or older; and
- Age was unknown for 0.4% (34).
- In 2011, 8,933 (98.0%) of the terminations were performed
in clinics; 179 (2.0%) were performed in hospitals (Indiana
occurrences). See Table
