Some outdoor air pollutants can worsen asthma. Air pollutants, such as ozone, put an added burden on the chronically inflamed and sensitive airways of asthmatics. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management regulate the Clean Air Act in Indiana. The Clean Air Act sets air pollution standards according to how each pollutant affects human health.
