Firefly Letter-Writing Campaign

Students from Cumberland Elementary School in West Lafayette have spearheaded the push for several years to adopt the Say’s Firefly as our official state insect.

Thomas Say—a renowned entomologist—named the Say’s Firefly in 1826 while he lived in New Harmony.

Gov. Holcomb got their bug and he’s encouraging these great kids and their perseverance. He asks that you join us. This is a great way for young students to be involved in the civic process.

Write a letter to the governor’s office about why you support the Say’s Firefly becoming the state’s official insect and he’ll share your letters with the General Assembly.

By Wednesday, Feb. 14 please mail the letter to:

Governor Eric Holcomb
Attn: Firefly
200 W. Washington St.
Room 206
Indianapolis, IN 46204
