Who is the Indiana GIO?

Indiana Geographic Information Officer

Compton brings more than 10 years of GIS experience, including data integration, coordination and the application of GIS in public safety disciplines. Before transitioning to the GIO, Compton previously worked as the GIS Coordinator for Indiana’s Integrated Public Safety Commission (IPSC) where she managed statewide map projects for the State’s Computer Aided Dispatch and Mobile technology applications, as well as provided support of local map initiatives for public safety applications.

Compton has been involved with GIS projects and applications since earning her MPA from Indiana University in 2008. In 2016, she joined IUPUI School of Public and Environmental Affairs as Associate Faculty, instructing students on mapping and analysis for public safety. Compton served as President of the Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC) in 2017 and has been an IGIC Board member and co-chair of the IGIC Geospatial Preparedness Committee since 2014. 

When not in front of a computer or teaching a class, Compton enjoys on and off road cycling and adventures with her family.
