Meet the IGIO's New Deputy of Programs and Outreach
The Indiana Geographic Information Office is pleased to announce the promotion of Steve Aldrich to Deputy Geographic Information Officer (GIO) for Programs and Outreach.
Steve has served as a GIS Technical Specialist with the Office for the past 2.5 years, providing expert support to state agencies in their use of GIS. Prior to joining the State, Steve was a tenured professor of Geography at Indiana State University where he taught GIS, remote sensing, and spatial statistics. He holds a PhD in Geography from Michigan State University.
In his new role, Steve will lead and oversee several of the Office’s core programs:
- Data Harvest – An annual collection of foundational geographic data (addresses, streets, parcels, and administrative boundaries) from all 92 counties. These datasets are used extensively by state agencies and are vital to the future of 911 call routing.
- Imagery – The capture of high-resolution, leaf-off aerial imagery for the entire state. Collected on a rotating 4-year cycle, this imagery supports decision-making at all levels of government and beyond.
- Elevation – The acquisition of statewide elevation data, refreshed every 8 years in conjunction with the U.S. Geological Survey, providing critical input for modeling and infrastructure planning.
- Outreach – A collaborative effort to connect with local governments, the private sector, academic institutions, and non-profits to share data resources and gather valuable feedback that shapes the Office’s priorities.
- Grants – The development and management of grants for our stakeholders, including the one-time SEED grant for counties and the upcoming ATLAS grant for educational institutions.
Please join us in congratulating Steve on this well-deserved promotion!
