Triton Metal Products, Scott Lawson of Marion both received WorkOne Achievement Awards

INDIANAPOLIS (April 12, 2017) – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and its WorkOne Career Centers hosted their biennial WorkOne Achievement Awards on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Statehouse. The ceremony recognized the success of Hoosier employees and employers who have received services through WorkOne. Triton Metal Products and Scott Lawson of Marion, Ind., were two of 22 recipients who received an employer award and an individual award, respectively. Both recipients were nominated for the award by their local WorkOne center.

Triton Metal Products received a WorkOne Achievement Award for partnering with WorkOne to create employment opportunities for local Hoosiers.

Triton Metal Products, a division of Industrial Steering Products, has developed a broad range of manufacturing, engineering and fabrication knowledge. It serves several industries, including automotive, heavy truck, agriculture, construction, medical, aerospace and more.

The Hamilton-based company utilizes Indiana Career Connect to recruit talent for all open positions, ranging from general labor to management. Triton Metal Products also hosts job fairs in four WorkOne Career Centers. The company has taken advantage of SkillUp training for its incumbent workers in the maintenance program, with additional opportunities in welding and CNC in the near future. Triton Metal Products also has taken advantage of On-The-Job Training (OJT) subsidies for 16 WorkOne customers throughout the past five years.

Scott Lawson received a WorkOne Achievement Award for overcoming several employment barriers and personal challenges, and for pursuing a better life for himself.

A veteran of the United States Navy, Lawson served in the Navy for five years as an Operations Specialist (OS2) before being honorably discharged on April 23, 1986. After losing his job in October of 2015 due to a legal issue surrounding his problem with addiction, Lawson was referred to his local WorkOne for job search assistance. He took required assessments, enrolled into WIOA services, improved his résumé and worked on his confidence in interviewing. Diligent about finding a new job and working on his sobriety, Lawson found work in March of 2016 as a maintenance worker for Eagle Chase Village.
