MS Companies, Lauren Marks of Henderson both received WorkOne Achievement Awards

INDIANAPOLIS (April 12, 2017) – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and its WorkOne Career Centers hosted their biennial WorkOne Achievement Awards on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Statehouse. The ceremony recognized the success of Hoosier employees and employers who have received services through WorkOne. MS Companies and Lauren Marks of Henderson, Ky., were two of 22 recipients who received an employer award and an individual award, respectively. Both recipients were nominated for the award by their local WorkOne center.

MS Companies received a WorkOne Achievement Award for partnering with WorkOne to create employment opportunities for local Hoosiers.

Founded in 1999, MS Companies pairs candidates seeking flexible career development with more than 900 clients in need of customized personnel and quality solutions in its 14-state network. Employees with diverse experience levels receive vocational training that helps launch rewarding careers. MS Companies has placed approximately 1,000 individuals in employment in Southwest Indiana since opening its office in Evansville in July of 2015.

Lauren Marks received a WorkOne Achievement Award for overcoming several employment barriers and personal challenges, and for pursuing a better life for herself.

Before enrolling in WorkOne services at the Evansville office, Marks was unemployed and living off of food stamps (SNAP) and TANF. Marks had multiple barriers to finding a job – she lacked a résumé, job-searching and interviewing skills, and she had a criminal background. Through WorkOne, Marks participated in résumé and interview workshops, including mock interviews where she learned how to appropriately discuss her past and experience.

She landed a job at Resources MFG in Henderson, and after only 90 days she received a raise. Because Resources MFG recently closed its Henderson office, Marks is job-searching with her case manager again, but feels confident that she will soon find employment.
