Gov. Braun Honors Adult Learners and Workforce Partnerships
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Gov. Mike Braun, the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD), the Indiana Association for Adult and Continuing Education (IAACE), and statewide partners gathered at the Indiana Statehouse for the 5th Annual Adult Education Day, honoring Hoosier adult learners and employers who champion workforce-focused education.
“Adult Education is transforming lives and strengthening Indiana’s workforce,” Gov. Mike Braun said in his remarks. “When Hoosiers gain skills and credentials, they create opportunities for themselves, their families, and our economy. Today we celebrate those success stories and the partnerships making them possible.”
Governor Braun also gave a special shout-out to Christine Strunk of Shelbyville and Moses Hassan of Wagler Education, recognizing their perseverance and achievements as powerful examples of how education opens doors to opportunity.
Christine Strunk’s story is one of resilience and determination. Once featured on the cover of TIME Magazine after dropping out of high school at 17, Christine overcame significant challenges to earn her High School Equivalency at McDowell Adult Education Center. Her determination has even inspired her oldest daughter to enroll in the same program.
Moses Hassan, winner of the Adult Learner Essay Contest, shared his inspiring journey, a story of resilience and opportunity that reflects the power of education to change lives. His essay captured the hope and determination that Adult Education programs foster for learners seeking a better future.
“Adult Education Day is about recognizing perseverance and progress,” said Mike Smith, Interim Commissioner of DWD. “When Hoosiers gain skills and credentials, they open doors to better careers and brighter futures. Adult Education is workforce development.”
With more than 250 in-person and online class locations across the state, Indiana’s Adult Education program continues to lead the nation in student outcomes and career credentialing.
