20 Real Workforce Stories: Episode V
Every year, thousands of Hoosiers seeking to improve their livelihoods take advantage of the many services and programs offered by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD).
Whether out of work or choosing to pursue a different career path, there are a plethora of options available. For instance, one can simply visit a WorkOne Center to access the training needed to find a new or better job, or build a stronger résumé, or access current online resources offering the latest job opportunities and data.
Beyond that, those wanting to achieve their high school equivalency can do so through DWD’s Adult Education program. About 476,000 working-age adults in Indiana lack their high school diploma, which can be a tremendous barrier in moving forward on a career path. Others who have lost their jobs through foreign trade can get help through the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program. And on-the-job-training programs are available to both youth and adult populations looking to pursue a registered apprenticeship.
These are just a few of the examples available to help Hoosiers earn a better living. Companies can benefit, too, through such programs as the employer training grant, which provides for businesses in certain industries to skill-up their workforce.
To highlight the positive impact DWD programs are having on individuals and companies both, the agency has launched its 20 In 2020 series, which features 20 “real stories” throughout the year. Check out the full stories and their accompanying videos below.
