Apprentice Turkey Hunting License
Try hunting before taking hunter education
Indiana allows hunters who have not yet taken a hunter education course to purchase an apprentice hunting license. Apprentice hunters can hunt with help from an experienced mentor before taking a hunter education class.
For a mentor, few things are more fulfilling than passing along the hunting tradition to someone new. Take someone hunting today using Indiana’s apprentice hunting license.
To hunt wild turkeys this spring, those over 18 years old will need to have a 2018 apprentice spring turkey hunting license (unless hunting on one’s own farmland). You will also need a 2018 game bird habitat stamp privilege. Resident youth can purchase a 2018 apprentice resident youth hunt/trap combo license and non-resident youth can purchase a 2018 apprentice non-resident spring turkey hunting license.
You must be accompanied by a licensed hunter (mentor) who is at least 18 years old. The mentor must be near you while hunting, which puts them in a position to help call turkeys, arrange decoys, and offer pointers to help make your apprentice hunt a success.
