Regine Brindle caught this Northern mockingbird posing along Mississinewa Road in Peru. A mother with a self-described budding hobby in wildlife photography, she makes a habit of roaming for a couple of hours after she drops off her son at Peru High School. On this day, she was returning from a drive to Seven Pillars when she noticed the sun’s rays hitting in just the right place for a landscape shot. After she pulled over, this little bird landed. She snapped the shot with her Nikon Coolpix P520.
Deanna DeLong of Indianapolis captured typically tranquil Lake Shakamak with a Nikon Coolpix L810 upon arriving for a long weekend last October. “Who could be stressed when you’re looking at this?” she said. The crew staying in Cabin 15 included husband Jimmy, grandson Tristan, and her mother Sandy, who has subscribed to OI for 40 years. Sandy has given Deanna a subscription for Christmas the past four years. They use the magazine to relive the state parks they’ve visited and to plan their next trip.
