Steps to Certification

A candidate must agree to adhere to the Indiana Supreme Court Guidelines for Court Interpreters & Candidates. The Guidelines provide important program procedures such as the written and oral exams, exam cancellations, the oral exam grading and re-grading process, and the reciprocity policy. Candidates must score 80% or higher on the written exam and 70% or higher on the oral exam to be eligible for certification.

Registration for Fall 2025 opens in July

The Court Interpreter Certification Training Program is held twice a year. Registration for the Fall Session opens in July, and the program starts in August. Registration for the Spring Session opens in December, and the program starts in January. All testing takes place in Indianapolis. Contact us with questions.

When you sign up for orientation, you are committing to and paying for both the remote orientation sessions and the in-person written exam administered in Indianapolis. If you have already attended orientation and just want to retake the exam, see "Written Exam (Retake Only)" below.

Orientation

Date: August 7-8, 2025
Time: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Remote (Zoom - Cameras on with full participation is required)

Written exam

Date: August 12, 2025
Time: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Location: Indianapolis (In-person)

Deadline to register: June 26 - July 25, 2025
Fee for both: $75 for Indiana residents; $150 for non-residents

Retake Written Exam

Date: August 12, 2025
Time: 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Location: Indianapolis (In-person)
Deadline to register: June 26 - July 25, 2025
Fee: $25

When you sign up for skills building, you are also committing to and paying for the remote simultaneous workshop and the in-person oral exam (or oral proficiency interview) administered in Indianapolis. However, you must register for the exam separately and may only sit for the exam if you successfully complete skills building and simultaneous workshop. If you have already passed skills building and simultaneous workshop and just want to retake the oral exam, see "Retake Oral Exam / Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI)" below.

Skills Building

Date: August 28-29, 2025
Time: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Remote (Zoom - Cameras on with full participation is required)

Simultaneous Workshop

Date: September 9, 2025
Time: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: Remote (Zoom - Cameras on with full participation is required)

Deadline to register: August 18-21, 2025

Oral Exam / Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI)

Date: October 27-31, 2025
*The oral exam will be open during the week. You will be able to select a specific date/time (1 hour) from the choices available. Example: Monday, October 27, 2025 @ 9:00 a.m. or Tuesday, October 28, 2025 @ 2:00 p.m.
Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Indianapolis (In-person)

Deadline to register: August 30 - September 10, 2025
Fee for all three: $125 for Indiana residents; $250 for non-residents

Retake Oral Exam / Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI)

Date: October 27-31, 2025
*The oral exam will be open during the week. You will be able to select a specific date/time (1 hour) from the choices available. Example: Monday, October 27, 2025 @ 9:00 a.m. or Tuesday, October 28, 2025 @ 2:00 p.m.
Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Indianapolis (In-person)

Deadline to register: August 30 - September 10, 2025
Fee: $25 per section (up to 3 sections) for Indiana residents; $50 per section (up to 3 sections) for non-residents
