Required
Title Checks (Vehicle Inspections) are required by the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles ( BMV ) for any:
- Assembled vehicles
- Vehicle purchased out of state
- Vehicle with a salvage title
Inspection
This is required before the Indiana BMV will license any vehicle. The officer will check the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to compare with entries for stolen vehicles. The officer will then complete the necessary form for the BMV . If the vehicle is not legal to drive on public roadways, please call the Dispatch Office at the Spencer County Sheriffs’ Department for an officer to come to your home.
If the vehicle is licensed legally, you may bring it to the Spencer County Sheriff's Department for the title check. This service is provided free of charge by The Spencer County Sheriffs’ Department. You will need to have a copy of the title or the bill of sale at the time of inspection.
