Indiana residents must present a valid photo identification (ID) before casting a ballot at the polls on Election Day.
Criteria
To be acceptable the ID must meet the following 4 criteria:
- Display the voter’s photo
- Display the voter’s name, and the name must substantially conform with the voter registration record.
- Display an expiration date or expired sometime after the date of the last General Election (November 2, 2010)
- Be issued by the State of Indiana or the U.S. government.
Your Indiana driver’s license, Indiana photo ID card, U.S. passport, or military ID will meet this requirement.
Indiana ID Card
If you do not have an acceptable ID for voting, all Indiana BMV branches will issue an Indiana ID card free of charge. You must tell the branch personnel that you need the ID for voting purposes in order for them to waive the fee.
You will also need to provide the BMV with necessary documentation. For a list of acceptable documentation, please visit the Photo ID website or call the Hoosier Voter Hotline at 866-IN-1-VOTE.
