Glenn A. Black Laboratory of Archaeology
423 N. Fess Street Bloomington, IN

Ryan Kennedy is a graduate student whose research centers on the food practices of early Chinese immigrants in the United States. His talk will focus on faunal (animal) and floral (plant) data currently collected from the Market Street Chinatown, a nineteenth-century Chinese community in San Jose, California and the site of his dissertation work. Ryan will use these data to talk about the food choices of Market Street’s residents and how dietary decisions connected them to other people and places including local merchants, regional trade networks, and their homes in mainland China.
