About this trip idea

Allow 1-2 days.

You can read books, watch television and surf the Internet, but to really learn – to really let it sink in – you have to experience it first hand and the best place for that is Evansville .

History, culture and archaeology
Hundreds of years ago the largest settlement in Indiana was a thriving town of Mississippian Indians located near the Ohio River. This town was the center of government and trade for a thriving and innovative Native American tribe. For an unknown reason, the town was abandoned leaving behind a treasure trove of artifacts and culture for you to explore. Now known as Angel Mounds State Historic Site , the site offers a living history village with interpretive center and 600 acres of trails to explore.

Cheetahs, hippos and monkeys
Who doesn’t like a trip to the zoo? Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden is a fantastic resource in northwest Evansville. You’ll discover more than 700 animals as you wander the zoo’s beautifully landscaped grounds. Be sure to spend time in the new Amazonia exhibit! This “forest of riches” brings the South American rainforest to Indiana. Look all around – you’ll find monkeys and tropical birds in the canopy, tapirs by the water and even a jaguar lurking amongst the forestry.

A fossil dig, a ball vacuum and a 20-foot tall duck
This crazy collection of learning comes courtesy of the Koch Family Children’s Museum of Evansville - cMoe for short. Learning doesn’t get more hands-on than at cMoe. Designed to spark the natural curiosity and imagination, this museum is all about fun. Your family will build, create and express themselves through 18,000 square feet of exhibits. At the end of the day you may just have worn them out.

Family-friendly, log cabin and fried chicken
During your stay in Evansville, The Log Inn Restaurant is sure to satisfy any hunger pain or picky-eater. Serving up great food since the early 1800s, enjoy a family-style dinner featuring platters of fried chicken, roast beef, ham, mashed potatoes and more.
