Travel back in time without traveling a far distance in Indianapolis.
Allow 2-3 days.
When you’re craving a trip back in time, you don’t need to travel far. Indianapolis offers two special attractions to immerse you in pioneer heritage and Native American history. Travel through time for an unforgettable visit Step into Conner Prairie Interactive History Park and you are literally stepping back into history. Spend your time interacting with people from the 1800s – visiting, touching and experiencing life in five different historic areas. Their newest attraction is the 1859 Balloon Voyage where guests learn about early aviation history and can ride in a tethered hot air balloon 350 feet in the sky for a one-of-a-kind historic experience! Conner Prairie’s 200 acres invite people of all ages to explore year-round. In December you can help the residents of Prairietown prepare for the holidays and stay to enjoy the party. During the winter months, help prepare and eat dinner in the historic Conner House for one of their Hearthside Suppers. [Note: each of these special events requires advance reservations.] Help decorate and celebrate the Fourth of July 19th Century style or visit the County Fair in the fall. There’s always a special event to bring you back to this jewel of an institution. Back to the future After a day in pioneer Indiana you will be happy to take advantage of some very modern accommodations – the nearby Hotel Indigo in Fishers is an excellent choice. Or head downtown Indianapolis to the Conrad Indianapolis . After you check-in, head to Mass Ave for dinner – go a little early to take advantage of the fun, unique shops in the area – and then end your evening with a relaxing dinner at R Bistro . Wake up ready to do more exploring at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art , the only museum of its kind in the Midwest and one of only two museums east of the Mississippi that showcases Native American and Western art, culture and history. The museum’s Sky City Café is the perfect spot to grab lunch with its Southwestern and Native American-inspired cuisine. Patrons can dine inside or enjoy the scenic canal view from the terrace.
