About this trip idea

Allow 2-3 days.

Make Indianapolis your home base for family fun. Overnight at one of these family-friendly hotels: Caribbean Cove Hotel & Water Park on the northwest side promises 50,000 square feet of water fun or stay downtown at the Crowne Plaza at Historic Union Station in one of their 26 Pullman train car guestrooms.

Imaginations run wild
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis  —the world's largest children's museum—offers five levels of hands-on, exploring fun. Take on the dinosaurs in Dinosphere; examine the stars at SpaceQuest Planetarium; experiment in ScienceWorks; take a spin on the carousel in Carousel Wishes and Dreams; then, fly over the Great Wall to China via their Take Me There exhibit. Beyond the permanent exhibits, there are several special exhibitions offered through out the year including their annual Jolly Days.

Roars, ohhhhhs and cheers in Water River State Park
Hang out in White River State Park just a hop, skip and jump away from the heart of downtown Indianapolis. Get close to the animals at the Indianapolis Zoo . Touch sharks, feed a giraffe by hand, go eye to eye with cheetahs and nose to nose with dolphins. You’ll hear plenty of “ohhhhs” as your kids learn about Indiana’s ever-changing history at Indiana State Museum .  Catch a 3D movie on the IMAX big screen. Enjoy lunch at the elegant L.S. Ayres Tea Room, a re-creation of the original 1905 downtown restaurant or grab a quick bite at the Canal Café & Terrace.

If you're a sports fan, learn about outstanding student-athletes from around the nation at the NCAA Hall of Champions . And, during baseball season, find out why Sports Illustrated calls Victory Field , home of the Indianapolis Indians, the best Minor League ballpark in America. We suggest enjoying the game from the outfield lawn. Weather permitting, you can also explore the park and canal via bike, paddle boat or guided Segway tour, all available on-site.
