About this trip idea

Northern Indiana State Parks boast enviable waterways. Whether it's the dunes of Lake Michigan or the riverbeds of the Tippecanoe, water lovers won't find a shortage of activities in the region.

Dramatic dune
Visit Indiana Dunes State Park , consisting of 2,182 acres of flawless landscapes including 3 miles of beautiful beach along Lake Michigan's southern shore. Large sand dunes tower nearly 200 feet above the shores and provide interesting terrain to explore the vast range of habitats and species that abound.

Recreation on the river
A beloved destination for canoeists, Tippecanoe River State Park  grants picturesque waterways to all who visit. While visitors must bring their own canoe or rent from the local canoe outfitter, the park features convenient campground facilities for easy access to the river.

Popular Potato Creek State Park  sits just southwest of South Bend. Mature woodlands, old fields, restored prairies, diverse wetlands and the 327-acre Worster Lake greet those who venture to the park. Visitors are entertained with bike trails, hiking trails, canoeing, a beach for swimming, a tubing hill in the winter and plenty of bountiful fishing throughout the year.

Native history and nature's beauty
Acknowledging the rich Native American heritage in the region, Pokagon State Park  pays tribute to the last leaders of the Potawatomi tribe. The park's Potawatomi Inn  takes its name from these Native Americans, who made this region home. Beautiful stone and log structures dot the park landscape of rolling wooded hills, wetlands and open meadows. The park is framed by Lake James and Snow Lake, offering abundant opportunities for boating, swimming, fishing and scenic sunsets.
