Water fun for the family
Whitewater Memorial State Park 
makes a spectacular family getaway with a 200-acre Whitewater Lake, access to Brookville Reservoir and plenty of recreational facilities. Shoreline hiking, flat-water boating, swimming, fishing and camping are abundant around the man-made lake. With nine miles of horseback riding trails, the park is also conducive to horse fanatics. A saddle barn even offers hayrides, guided trail rides and sleigh rides in the winter.
Year-round adventures for all
Travel to Fort Harrison State Park 
in the eastern part of the central region for year-round adventures. The park features a sledding hill in the winter, one of the largest in the area. Spring brings woodland wildflowers and access to hiking trails. Summer brings ample opportunity for canoeing on Fall Creek. Of course, autumn brings breathtaking fall colors.
Explore Native American history
Visit Mounds State Park 
to witness 10 unique works built by ancient Adena-Hopewell Native Americans. The largest piece, the Great Mound, is believed to have been constructed around 160 B.C. Gather with friends and family where Native Americans once gathered for religious ceremonies and astronomical observations.
Recreation and relaxation
Expansive views and good fishing beckons visitors to Summit Lake State Park 
. The park provides excellent bird watching and wildlife observation areas, three boat ramps, a beach bathhouse and plenty of picnic facilities. In the southwest corner of the park sits the county's first nature preserve, Zeigler Woods, filled with rich flora and fauna.
Head to Ouabache State Park 
for a beautiful trail system and excellent fishing in the Wabash River. Enjoy the park's many recreational accommodations such as a nature center, picnic areas, hiking trails, paved bike trails, a swimming pool, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts and a playground.
Nine connecting lakes form Chain O'Lakes State Park 
, a boater's paradise. Paddle through on kayaks or canoes, fish the electric-motors-only waters, relax on the beach, hike the 10 miles of surrounding trails and visit the park's nature center located in a one-room schoolhouse. Stay in hillside cabins or in the onsite campground.
