Indiana Medical History Museum

Discover the heritage of the healing arts in Indiana in the 1896 medical research laboratory of the Central Indiana Hospital for the Insane, where doctors were using the new sciences of the era to find causes of mental illness. Original equipment and oak furnishings throughout in laboratories, autopsy amphitheater, anatomical museum, morgue, library, etc. Docent-led tours bring visitors into the rooms for a close-up look at what was then state-of-the-art medical investigation -- a study collection of damaged brains in their original specimen jars, cutting-edge microphotography equipment, a hand-cranked centrifuge, and hundreds of other pieces.
