This historic cemetery was incorporated in 1863 and includes Indianapolis’ highest hill, The Crown, which sits 842.21 feet high. Tour groups love to watch the sunset from The Crown, which offers a 360-degree panorama of the entire skyline. Public tours are available on the second, third and fourth weekends of the month from June through early October. Private tours may be arranged year-round. Notable persons buried at Crown Hill include Lyman S. Ayres, Ovid Butler, John Dillinger, Benjamin Harrison, Col. Eli Lilly, James Whitcomb Riley and Booth Tarkington.
