Plan your first steps into Social Media

by Jeremy Williams on October 2nd, 2008

I’ll write a post soon that goes into more detail about different types of Social Media, but for now, I’ll highlight a quick and easy way to take your first steps into social media.

I know that I’ve talked about Flickr before, but this is a very quick, easy and painless way to start building your “social media footprint”. Sign up for an account at Flickr.com and begin uploading your photos. You can create sets of photos that have a common theme (ex. Downtown Photos, Festival Photos, etc). Link to your Flickr Photos from your webpage and push people there to get a better idea of what there is to do in your town/county/attraction.

Creating a Flickr account doesn’t work for every company or brand, but it’s a GREAT idea for any DMO (Destination Marketing Organization) because people want to see photos of your location, and as the largest photo-sharing website in the world, lots of people look to Flickr.

Once you join Flickr, please join the Visit Indiana Group. You can add your photos to the group and join 100 other members that have added nearly 2,100 great pictures of Indiana to the group. You can also start your own group and get people in your community to join as well.
