The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will go back to the future with the inaugural Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Sept. 12-14.
It's the first MotoGP event at the famous facility, but the very first motorized race at IMS was a motorcycle race on the oval in August 1909.
This year, the elite riders and million-dollar motorcycles of MotoGP -- the world's premier motorcycle racing series -- will race at speeds of 200 mph on the 16-turn, 2.620-mile road course at IMS.
Motorcycle road racing is among the most exciting sights in motorsports. Riders sometims fan out five-wide on straightaways in the blast for the next corner, leaning so far into turns that their knees skim along the asphalt. The fastest, most advanced motorcycles on Earth have so much power that the front wheel often lifts off the ground when exiting a corner.
All of the world's best riders will race at IMS, including five-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi of Italy, reigning World Champion Casey Stoner of Australia, 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden of the United States and fellow Americans John Hopkins and Colin Edwards.
The promising young riders of the 125cc, 250cc classes and the Red Bull Riders Cup also will compete, creating non-stop action on track all three days.
Plus the off-track excitement will be fueled by the unique style and attitude of Red Bull.
It's the first motorcycle race at IMS in 99 years, and it's well worth the wait. The Red Bull Indianapolis GP: Three days, two wheels, one great time.
