State Park Surprises!
Limestone Country is home to one of the best state parks for outdoor recreation. At Spring Mill State Park in Mitchell, you and your family can hike, geocache and camp. The park offers surprising activities, too. You can travel through time! At the Pioneer Village, costumed re-enactors demonstrate pioneer days while the impressive water-powered grist mill grinds corn into corn meal. From the pioneer era to the space age, Spring Mill State Park is also the home of the Gus Grissom Memorial, honoring Hoosier astronaut Virgil "Gus" Grissom, America's second man in space. The Memorial features interactive exhibits, Grissom's space suit and a real space capsule he flew.

This season is time for local fall flavors, too. Salt Creek Brewery in Bedford is the county's first and only craft brewery. It is located in a comfortable converted service garage and the former "alignment pit" is now where beer is crafted. Adults and families love the pub food and special atmosphere.

While in Limestone Country, visit the restaurant in the Spring Mill Inn to taste a local fall favorite, persimmon pudding. A persimmon is a plum-sized fruit that has an orange color with a unique fig-citrus flavor. Persimmon pudding is a baked pudding dessert that is created with the fruit’s pulp. It has the texture of gingerbread and is usually served in squares with a dollop of whipped cream! Give this special dessert a try, you’ll love it!
