The art of growing grapes, making wine

Overlooking the Ohio River, Blue Heron Vineyard specializes in American grapes and French hybrids. From those, they make a wide variety of wines available by the glass when you’re a guest at their bed and breakfast or by the bottle to take home. When you stay in the B&B farmhouse, you can enjoy breakfast in the house, on the deck at the winery or in the shade of a tree by the lake. Don’t miss the beautiful Celtic cross on the grounds. A local sculptor spent 23 months carving the cross within a 20’ x 22’ x 4’ stone that is natural to the hillside. Blue Heron owner Gary Dauby is also a sculptor, creating walking sticks that are available for sale along with artwork created by Lynn Dauby and other local artists.

While there’s always beautiful scenery for bike rides on the grounds and in the area, there’s a special Falling Leaves Blue Heron Bicycle Tour in late September. The 20-mile ride is suitable for beginners and families, while the 64-mile and 32-mile rides take you over challenging hills, through the Hoosier National Forest and along the Ohio River. The ride includes afternoon music and wine tasting.
