One of the highlights of the weekend I spent in Richmond last fall was an outstanding dinner at Galo’s Italian Grill. Tucked away off the famous National Road, just look past all the chain restaurants and strip malls to this haven of deliciousness.
Italian food is such a people pleaser, isn’t it? Lasagna, pizza, tiramisu, what’s not to love about all those things? But sometimes I want to be a bit more adventurous. At Galo’s, you’ll find all the staples of Italian dining, and yet with several daily specials and a robust menu, you can also try new things. I had scallops that were on special the night we ate there, and also sampled my sister’s ravioli and my mom’s salmon. Needless to say, we were very content (and full) when we left. All the dishes were fantastic, as were our salads.
Galo’s pairs their food with great atmosphere too. It’s an open and spacious dining room. So while you’ll be able to take in the views of the restaurant, your table will still retain an element of privacy. It would make a perfect place for a date, and yet I also would have felt very comfortable taking my kids there. I’d recommend making reservations in advance, though. This place has quite a reputation, and tables fill up quickly especially on the weekends. Call 765.973.9000.
I’m looking forward to a return visit, perhaps when it’s warmer to dine on their outdoor patio. And I really want to try their wood fired pizza. Although I’m still dreaming about those scallops… Decisions, decisions.
Thanks to Visit Richmond and Galo’s for hosting me!
